Nate Wrey is old and hairy like Uncle Pel but not as smelly. Unlike Mooge, he paid attention at school and learned to read and write. Mooge: The Prehistoric Genius is his first children’s book. He learned all about history at school and university, but is still teaching himself about the prehistoric period.

When he was young, Nate liked books by Roald Dahl, which are fun and exciting, with great characters who get in and out of trouble, teaching valuable lessons as a result. He also enjoyed reading cartoons such as Asterix the Gaul, starting his interest in history.

In writing Mooge, Nate liaised with a wide range of people to ensure the story, characters and rhymes were spot on. This included a children’s book editor, teachers and, most importantly, the experts, children.

Nate has a day job as a Civil Servant, working for the government, but has also written two novels for adults (as Nathaniel M Wrey) called Liberty Bound and Where Liberty Lies. They have earn him over ten international book awards to date. He lives in Kent, where he admires the ceramic ducks on his walls while chewing a bone.

I Werent to Good with Inglish at Skool (or English was not my best subject at School)

By Nate Wrey

I werent to good with Inglish at Skool.

With spelling nor grammar. I felt a fall?

I spoke the lingo. Could spell me name.

But reeding and righting ain’t the same.

I’d scratch me hare, sometimes I’d swear.

Don’t get me started on ‘There’, ‘They’re’ or ‘Their’!

But then I found a book I liked.

Twas though someone had turned on a light.

New worlds and magic beckoned to me:

Adventure, action, and piracy.

I continued to read throughout my youth.

It helped me learn and discern the truth.

But still I wasn’t the best in class.

My English exam? I didn’t pass.

I didn’t give up. I read and read

Things I enjoyed when I went to bed.

The re-sit I passed with room to spare.

With all those books, I could now spell ‘hair.’

At Reading Uni, where the bricks are red,

I studied history or, as we say, read.

And read I did and started to write

Some stories about a foolish knight.

They weren’t much good, they lacked a little;

Best not shared with my ego brittle.

But I carried on and improved with age,

There’s a lot you learn from the written page.

I started to work and went by train:

A perfect time for feeding the brain.

One thrilling book read outward bound:

A different one home was good, I found.

At work, I wrote a lot for the boss,

Getting it right with that dot and cross.

I learned about prose, a little on structure,

Helping others, like an instructor.

I still have trouble with the ending of words,

Missing the odd letter off my verbs.

But the truth is I was never a fool.

I just hadn’t found a book that was cool.

Once I got going, I didn’t stop,

Always reading another good plot.

Then musing one day, while sat all alone,

Inspiration came and I wrote my own.

An author I am, published afar.

So, find your book and reach for a star!
